FESOJ condemns journalist arrested over Facebook post in Dhuusamareeb, Galmudug
Mogadishu, Friday, October 01, 2021: The Federation of Somali Journalists (FESOJ) condemns the arrest of an independent journalist in Dhuusamareeb. Galmudug state and demands his immediate release.
On Tuesday 28 September 2021 Galmudug Police arrested Mohamed Abdiwali Tooxow, the freelance journalist who is in detention for more than three days at the Dhuusamareeb Police station. It is unconstitutional to keep a citizen in jail for more than forty-eight hours without due court process.
FESOJ call upon authorities of Galmudug State to make every effort to provide justice to the detained journalist and to investigate this arbitrary detention of journalist Abdiweli Mohamed Tohow.
“We see the arbitrary detention of journalists and harassing reporters as a violation against freedom of expression and the media law for reporting the situation in his/her regional state to inform the public.” Farah Omar Nur , FESOJ Secretary General said.
“We advise the journalists to follow the ethics of journalism when reporting sensitive issues to avoid being either detained or harassed.” Abdifatah Hassan Farah, FESOJ Deputy Chairman stated.
