The Federation of Somali Journalists (FESOJ) condemns in the strongest terms the brutal raid on the Mustaqbal Media Center and the torture of the station and shift editor by Somali government forces on early Tuesday 27, April 2021.

As confirmed by FESOJ from the Director of Mustaqbal Media Ahmed Isse Gutale the government forces entered by force to the radio compound tortured some of the staff including Bashir Mohamud Yusuf and confiscated radio equipment and all the information.

 

“We are very sorry that the army treated us brutally and targeted us despite we can’t understand the motive behind it and those responsible “. Mr Guutaale, the Director of Mustaqbal media told FESOJ.

 

This morning's act is against the independence of the media, and we condemn it. We call for the perpetrators to be brought to justice and for the immediate return of equipment confiscated from the media. Farah Omar Nur FESOJ Secretary General said on Tuesday.

 

“We urge the government to return the equipment as quickly as possible and allow the media to resume its work freely and without intimidations.” Farah added We have tried to contact government military officials to find out why they did harassment the journalist and confiscate the equipment but we have not been able to get a response from them, but we call for the justice to be brought the government forces involved in the media raid FESOJ President Abadir Abdulkadir Elmi said.

 

Mogadishu battles occurred recently was the tension between the government and the forces of the opposition, and journalists have the people and the world to report what is happening as a result of that journalists should not be targeted because of their work, FESOJ will closely monitor the situation meeting with journalists and advice when necessary.
