FESOJ Conducted Training for Youth on Co-Producing Social Media Content for Conflict Prevention and Peace building in Mogadishu

Mogadishu, Friday, April 4, 2025: In partnership with BBC Media Action and EU funding, FESOJ has completed a 2- day training youth on Co-Producing Social Media Content for Conflict Prevention and Peacebuilding in Mogadishu, Somalia.

Twenty persons (11 male and 9 female) participating the training were mainly journalists and other youth who work at their own social media platforms.

The capacity building program on co-producing social media content for conflict prevention and peacebuilding has been implemented from 2nd to 3rd April 2025 at Iftin Training Hall in Mogadishu city, Somalia.

Senior trainers from FESOJ has been facilitating presentations for the trainings focusing on the key topics including: Introduction to conflict prevention, the role of social media in peace and conflict prevention, interview skills, peacebuilding creativity, ethics, news kit production, storytelling and public interviews.

In his welcoming remarks, Ahmed Mohamed Ali (Sharif) senior media trainer and Head of the Training Department of FESOJ described the main topics that will be covered during the two-day training proceedings with special focus on co-producing social media content for conflict prevention and peacebuilding.

“The intention of the training is to improve the capacity of youth in Co-Producing Social Media Content for Conflict Prevention and Peacebuilding.” Farah Omar Nur, Secretary General of FESOJ has stated at the launch of the training program.

During the first day training sessions, the facilitators shared with the journalists how they could create news and programs based on the topics they were studying to broadcast on social media, radio stations, and their own channels.

Furthermore, during the second-day the key themes covered included peace building initiative, social media ethics, storytelling and Vox pop.

“I am pleased to have benefited from the training in learning how to present media content on peace and conflict prevention for the community and how to make news packages and its benefits for the journalists.  I have also acquired the ethics required to professionally transfer information to the society.”  Hodan Abdulkadir Sheikhdoon, a female reporter participant from Radio Mogadishu stated.

Mohamed Deeq Yusuf Moalim, social media freelancer participant; with appreciation; pointed out to have learned from the training how to prepare social media content on conflict resolution and the ethics required from the journalists to practice, and to always focus on the angle of peace with the Vox pop presentations.  He pledged to apply the lesson learned in his professional media work.

“The training is planned to empower youth with the essential skills to actively participate in conflict prevention and peacebuilding through the social media which is expanding, eventually contributing to a more peaceful and informed society.” Farah Omar Nur, Secretary General of FESOJ pointed out in his closing remarks.

The training for youth on Co-Producing Social Media Content for Conflict Prevention and Peacebuilding in Mogadishu, Somalia is part of a series of capacity-building program activities funded by the EU, supported by BBC Media Action and implemented by FESOJ.
