Media delegates from all parts of Somalia have arrived today in the Somali capital Mogadishu
Mogadishu, 26, 06, 2019: Almost 50 journalists from all parts of Somalia have arrived today in Mogadishu to participate in the General Assembly of National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ), the biggest journalist trade union conference in Somalia which will officially open on Thursday in Mogadishu.
Journalist delegates were welcomed at Aden Adde international airport by NUSOJ member colleagues in Mogadishu who expressed their gratitude to receive journalists with same profession who hailed from far places to achieve together their union’s objective.
The Union’s policy, objectives and priorities are decided at the General Assembly, which meets once in every three years. Six Branches of the union are entitled to send delegates to the General Assembly in proportion to the size of their membership. Policies and programs developed by the elected members are implemented and administered by the National Secretariat.
“Today there have been 47 journalists from 13 cities who reached to Mogadishu, and we are expecting 6 other journalists from Galkayo will join us which will bring the total number from all regions to 53 journalists” Hassan Mohamed Dahir an organizing secretary of NUSOJ said .
More than 70 journalists will be attending the three-day conference in which will be deeply focused on various issue including strategic plans of the union in the next three years and implementations.
The main purpose of the GA meeting is to share information on the main achievements, challenges, financial reports since the last GA meeting of NUSOJ, and discuss other significant issues as per planned agenda for the meeting leading to the further development of the program’s activities for NUSOJ in the short and long term.
The meeting is also intending to elect new governing team of the Somali Journalists Union for the next three years term
The opening cermony of General Assembly of NUSOJ will kick off in Mogadishu tomorrow on Thursday will be attended by Ministers, lawmakers from both Upper House and People’s House, civil society leaders, journalists and other invited dignitaries.
Journalist delegates who have reached to Mogadishu today expressed their gratitude to the warm welcome.
