Two journalists were killed and three injured in Saturday’s explosions in Mogadishu

Mogadishu city, Somalia, Tuesday, November 1, 2022: The Federation of Somali Journalists (FESOJ) strongly condemns the killing of more than 100 people, including two journalists and three injured in the bomb blast that struck Mogadishu on Saturday, October 29, 2022.

The Federation of Somali journalists (FESOJ) is deeply saddened by the death of Mohamed Issa Konaa ,
Mogadishu based M24 TV journalist, a humanitarian issues reporter who was killed by the second
explosion at a time he was on scene reporting the causalities resulting from the first blast.

FESOJ is also distressed by the death of Abdullahi Jamac, who happened to be passing by the road at the time of the explosion; he was one of the journalists who fled the country in 2007 for security reasons; he returned from U.K to Somalia only last week to see his mother who was living in Mogadishu.

Furthermore, the Federation of Somali journalists (FESOJ) has recorded the injury of journalists Feysal Omar, photographer for Reuters news agency, Abdulqadir Mohamed Abdulle, VOA Somali journalist and Esse Abdi Essa, one of the journalists working in Mogadishu; they have all sustained injury in the Mogadishu bomb blast.

“The journalists working in Somalia are facing a difficult security situation. We strongly condemn targeting the Somali journalists who are serving the community.

FESOJ sends its deepest condolences to the journalists’ families, friends and relatives who died in the heavy explosion at the Zoobe intersection in Mogadishu and prays to Allah to provide good health and speedy recovery to the wounded.
Similarly, we share the painful feeling with the Somali people affected by this unfortunate tragedy.
