Training Statement – South Central Somalia Regions Media Monitoring
The National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) in collaboration with Media Association of Puntland& (MAP) led Somalia Media Monitoring program executed a one (1) day training for 18 ((14 male and 4 female) media monitors on the three main focus of Quality, Ethics and Gender reporting.
Held at the Hilaac hotel on the October 14, 2018, the program is directly implemented by MAP and financed by free press unlimited (FPU) and the European union in partnership with NUSOJ and the Somaliland Journalist Association (SOLJA).
The training workshop was aimed to provide capacity building in improving the Somali Media Monitoring techniques, methodology and the online monitoring platform to ensure improving quality news reporting, ethical journalism and gender equality.
The experienced South Central Somalia Regions Media Monitoring Coordinator facilitated and conducted the training program.
The Monitors were given explanation for the purpose of the training and the magnitude and responsibility of the tasks they are expected to undertake. They were also provided with description of the media sectors they are monitoring that are private, public and Community media.
They have learned the significance of their monitoring, the system and guidelines to follow for their data collection, while they have conducted practical testing on the data monitoring form.
The monitors were from Banadir region, the regional administrators of Hirshabelle State, Galmudug State, South West State , Jubbaland State that are all coming under name of South and Central Somalia.
In conclusion, each group and individual of the participants have learned the name of the radio, television and newspaper to be monitored , its location, the time and type of data for monitoring and counting , and what not to monitor and count.
